Famous Last Words: The Merchants of Campo dei Mori

A Venetian legend tells that four of the statues in Venice’s Campo dei Mori were once a trio of merchant brothers & their servant. After being accused of selling poor quality goods, one of the merchants exclaimed “May the Lord turn us to stone if this is not the best cloth in Venice!”
